We wanted to imitate an FHM, ‘lads mag’ style photo shoot. Mimicking the poses models adopt in an exaggerated and ridiculous way, our intention was to show how these images are premeditated for the male gaze and performed, rather than being a true expression of female sexuality. In these types of images women seem to appear available, ‘sexy’, as if they are having fun and they always conform to standard beauty ideals. We find it almost laughable looking at such images as they seem so superficial and far removed from the reality of being a woman. These type of magazines seem to have little responsibility for the readers which may include young men hoping to learn more about women. These images, and the magazines we find them in, typically promote the objectification of women and therefore can have destructive implications for relationships.
